VOA, dịch vụ truyền thông đối ngoại chính thức của chính phủ Hoa Kỳ, phát sóng lần đầu tiên vào năm 1942 sau khi Nhật tấn công Trân Châu Cảng.

Ban Việt ngữ lần đầu tiên xuất hiện vào ngày 15/6/1943, nhưng tạm ngưng hoạt động từ năm 1946 trước khi lên sóng lại từ năm 1951 và liên tục phát triển tới tận ngày nay.

VOA phổ biến thông tin bằng hơn 40 ngôn ngữ, nhắm tới các quốc gia vẫn còn thiếu hệ thống thông tin độc lập.

Căn cứ vào hiến chương thành lập VOA, các chương trình phát thanh, truyền hình, bài viết phải dựa trên những nguyên tắc như chính xác, vô tư và đầy đủ, đại diện cho tất cả những thành phần trong xã hội Mỹ và trình bày một quan điểm toàn diện, cân bằng của những tư tưởng và định chế của Hoa Kỳ và trình bày rõ rệt chính sách của Hoa Kỳ.

Hiện nay, Ban Việt ngữ VOA có 2 buổi phát thanh radio trên Internet mỗi ngày: 4:30-5:00 và 22:00-23:00 (giờ Việt Nam). Ngoài ra, Ban Việt ngữ cũng phát hành một trang báo mạng tại địa chỉ voatiengviet.com và các chương trình truyền hình trên mạng Internet ở trang nhà, kênh YouTube.com/VOATiengVietVideo, và trang Facebook.com/VOATiengViet.

VOA còn mang đến cho khán thính giả và bạn đọc các chương trình học tiếng Anh giúp cải tiến kỹ năng nghe, hiểu rõ cấu trúc và ngữ pháp, và sử dụng Anh ngữ một cách chính xác. Xem thêm: YouTube.com/VietSpecialEnglish.

Currently, Vietnamese Service VOA broadcasts two radio on the Internet every day: 4: 30-5: 00 and 22: 00-23: 00 (now Vietnam). In addition, the Board also released a Vietnamese language newspaper pages online at voatiengviet.com and television programs on the Internet at the home page, channels YouTube.com/VOATiengVietVideo, and Facebook.com/VOATiengViet page.
